The G Adventures MS Expedition was the vessel which carried us far south to the lands of eternal ice. The adventure lasted from 10 February to the morning of 20 February.
The crossing of the Drake Passage took 2 days and was an opportunity to look for sea birds
Once across the Drake Passage, two off ship 'operations' were attempted daily. These were either zodiac cruises, or landings on islands, or in one case, on the mainland peninsula
Our second day was amazing. A blue sky day where we sailed south on the inside passage, through the narrow Lemaire Channel, thence the Grandidier Passage to Crystal sound, and ultimately, the Antarctic Circle
After Crossing the Circle, the weather turned and we spent the next day crashing through rough seas to reach Petermann island, where better weather was found
Next day saw us head for icy Cierva Cove, to do dodgem ganes with Humpback whales and icebergs.
Sailing North now, the volcanic Deception Island is a spectacular last stop before another crossing of the Drake Passage takes us back to Ushuaia via Cape Horn
